Our Adventure in Argentina

Dear Parents,

This blog was created to allow you to share a day by day account of our experience here in Argentina. We will be posting images and comments telling you about the activities that we are participating in and memories that are being formed. We hope you enjoy!

Day 1 La Plaza School

Today, we received a warm welcome from the faculty and student body of La Plaza School. After a brief orientation, a quick lesson about the Argentinian school system, the students were off to class. At around 1pm, the students were released to their houses to eat together with family. For many of the students in our group, the day ended with P.E featuring Shannon and Blair playing handball. This evening, the students have free time with their families.

Tomorrow.......off to Rosario bright and early.

So far the trip has been great! We arived in Buenos Aires on Monday after an eleven hour flight and got through customs and got our bags in less than thirty minutes. Mrs. Chase, the lady who organized the trip, met us at the airport and organized everything for us at the car rental office. The drive from the airport to the city was one of the scariest experiences of my life as no one drives within the lanes. There were motorcycles and bicycles rushing past us and we got a little too close to the cars next-to us a few times. Anyway, we eventually got to the city and then went out for a walk. I got to use my Spanish for the first time in a real life situation when we went to exchange money at the bank. Although it probably sounded strange, the bank teller understood what I meant and exchanged the money for me. After I got outside everybody else was saying that they were not allowed to exchange money because they were not eighteen, so I guess the man that helped me didn´t bother to check the date of birth in my passport. We went out for lunch in an area that was once the city´s main harbour and ordered some local food to try; for dessert there was this caramel pudding called Dulce de Leche that is awesome. At five o´clock we left the city for another airport that only has domestic flights and checked-in to leave for Rafaela. We found out once we checked-in that our return flight to Buenos Aires has been canceled on acount of that day being a national holiday, so Mr. Brown organized for us to take the bus instead. The flight was in a little nineteen seat airplane and took about an hour. Once we landed a van picked us up and drove us down a dirt road to the airport building. Our families were all waiting for us with signs and screamed and applauded when we entered the building.
